I don’t even know where to begin. Not sure if I’m more excited about the massacre on the scoreboard or the bloodshed on the ice. It seems clear that last week’s debocle between the Islanders and Penguins is a distant memory after last night. With nine goals (four in the first and four in the second), the Isles clearly showed Brent Johnson that they weren’t too happy about his DiPietro beatdown. Johnson had no answer all night. From the way Grabner was putting up shots, Johnson might as well not have been goal.

Yesterday, I discussed how I’ve started to strongly dislike this Penguins squad. Talbot’s hit on Comeau last week was completely uncalled for (and of course the Isles get penalized for it) and Brent Johnson’s one punch KO didn’t leave me in a good mood. Well 346 PIM, 17 game misconducts and 14 fighting penalties was what every Islanders fan needed. Couldn’t ask for better revenge. From the very beginning, the Isles were in the Penguins head. I’ve never seen a team get more manhandled like this in one game.

And let’s talk about newcomer Michael Haley! No matter what he does for the rest of the season, he will forever be a Coliseum favorite. Talk about standing up for your teamates. Not only did he earn his first NHL goal, he took down Johnson and Talbot! The guy can get a free meal anywhere in Uniondale for the rest of his life.

Last night, I was proud to call myself an Islander fan. Like I said a couple days ago, I love this years’ team because they play hard. Yesterday’s game should get rid of any rumors about this team packing the season in. The Isles won’t make the playoffs this year, but they will certainly give us a lot of fun games to watch for the next couple of months. Islanders take on the Sabres tomorrow afternoon at 3pm.

Btw, since the Penguins are the golden franchise of the NHL, I’m pretty sure the Isles will get doused with suspensions for the next month while Pittsburgh will be let off the hook. Just watch.
