They’re Tougher Than We Thought
It would’ve been easy for the Isles to roll over and the die the rest of the season after Thursday night’s humiliating loss to Pittsburgh. But it looks like this team is looking to fight down the stretch. After a high-scoring first period, Kevin Poulin and the Isles’ defense tightened up and didn’t allow the Senators to get on the board for the rest of the night. With a strong offense lead by two clutch goals by Rob Schremp and a buzzer-beater empty-netter by Frans Nielsen, the Islanders find themselves over .500 since the All-Star Break. More importantly, the Islanders have climbed out of the Eastern Conference cellar and move back to 14th place.
Now some bad news – Rick DiPietro is hurt…again. But this time it’s because of a facial fracture from Brent Johnson during the goalie fight. Could it get more humiliating for DP? I hope that someday this guy can bring some luck on his side and salvage a couple of great seasons before his 80 year contract is done. The Isles take on the Maple Leafs Tuesday night at the Coliseum.
Let’s also give a shout out for JT having his second fight of the season! The dude is showing some toughness in his second season! That’s what I’m talking about!!
