GMen Continue To Kill Quarterbacks. Who’s next?

Matt Moore, Jay Cutler, Todd Collins, Shaun Hill, and Tony Romo. How many more quarterbacks will die against the Giants by the end of the season? This defense is on pace to injure 11 quarterbacks by week 17. You kiddin’ me? This has got to be the scariest defense in the league. After the Monday night game against Dallas, I read this quote from Michael Boley:

“When he hit the ground I heard him let out a little scream so I kind of knew something was up,” Boley said. “I thought it was just a normal hit. Then after I got up and started running I looked back after the play was over and he was still down.”

This is stuff we used to hear in the 80’s with Taylor, Banks, Carson, and Pepper Johnson. Finally, the reputation is back. And I have to admit, I’m feeling a lot better about this 5-2 Giants team than last year’s 5-2 squad. When the defense is happy, the Giants are almost unstoppable. Last year, with all the problems with Osi and defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan not gaining the respect from his players, the team was in complete disarray. Now with Perry Fewell, the Giants look as sharp as they did in 2007.

However, there are some things they need to fix. First of all, five turnovers?! Gotta fix that. No matter how good you are in this league, you’re not going to win many games with five turnovers. Second, the defense can’t become complacent. The Cowboys were one onside kick away from making it a ballgame. You can’t allow a team to have that chance when you have 31 unanswered points.

In the NFL, you never want to peak too early in the season. Teams always adjust and find ways to beat you (unless you’re the ’72 Dolphins or ’07 Pats). So for the Giants, I think it’s good that they’re not playing perfect football. Make adjustments and play your strongest football in the second half of the season.
