Let the Madness Begin!
So I know sammywestside is our college basketball expert here at the borough, but I just want to make sure everyone is pumped for one of the best weeks of the year. The first two days of the NCAA tourney (starting this Thursday -aka St. Patty’s Day) are the greatest days in the spring. 16 games in 10 hours…boom! Does it get any better than that? Millions across America will be glued to their television with a bracket in one hand and a tv remote in the other. And remember the golden rule – always pick the Jesuit schools in the first round. God wants them to win. (Sorry sammywestside, but that means I’m picking the Zags over your beloved Redmen. I can never go against Mark Few’s bunch in the first round).
So given my Deacs came no where close to making the tournament this season, I could care less who wins. So I’m just going to root for scenarios. First, I want a #15 seed to knock a #2. Who can forget when #15 Hampton defeated #2 Iowa State in 2001? I also want at least three buzzer beaters on the first day so I can hear Gus Johnson explode. Finally, I would like Duke to get eliminate as soon as possible. Who knows, maybe some Hampton magic can send the Plumlee brothers home crying.
So now you have three short days to figure out your brackets. In my opinion, it seems that it’s been a roller coaster of a season for the top 25. I’m expecting a crazy bracket-buster tournament. So my bracket will be out of control. But then again, I expected this four years ago when three number one seeds made it to the final four.
If you’re still not pumped, here’s some Gus:
