The Worst Way to Lose a Hockey Game
If you guys want to see the definition of a heart-breaking loss, watch the highlights of the Capitals-Islanders game last night at the Verizon Center. Having watched 59 minutes of excellent Isles’ hockey (one minute away from Lawson’s first career shut out), Capitals’ Center Brooks Laich scored to force overtime. A minute and a half later, Ovechkin worked his magic in OT to give the Caps an impressive 2-1 victory.
Throughout the third period, I prepared myself for the Capitals to tie it up. I knew it would be almost impossible for the Isles to shut out a great team on the road. But as soon as I started to believe the shutout was going to happen, Laich ripped my heart out. Gotta admit, it was a great play. The pass by newly acquired Jason Arnott to Laich one of the best passes I’ve seen all year.
So since the All-Star Break, the Islanders are at a respectable 8-5-2, almost exactly the record I thought they would have. After having a hot middle of February, the Isles have cooled down losing their last four games (two in overtime). Islanders return home tonight to take on the Wild at 7pm.
