Islanders Lose to Flyers in OT…Give Me That Point!

Coming into last night, the Flyers have beaten the Islanders 19 out of the last 20 times. The Isles also haven’t won in Philadelphia since April 2007. So when the Islanders visit the Wachovia Center, you gotta expect a loss. Even though gaining a point at Philly is a success, the Isles played awful. Montoya played like he deserves to be in Bridgeport. He’s been a great asset for the team for the past couple of weeks, but that was unacceptable. I know the defense played awful, but Al needed to step his game up and he failed to do so. Offensively, I’ve been proud of these guys all month. Last night was another great performance. Down by two with 15 minutes to go, Michael Haley and Matt Martin helped lead an unexpected comeback. With Martin scoring two goals in the third and Haley having a phenomenal assist, the Isles earned a point forcing the Flyers into overtime.

The Islanders have been one of the hottest teams this month going 8-4-1. They’ve improved their record to 23-31-8, a total of 54 points. It’s frustrating to think about the potential this season had if Streit was healthy and if DiPietro showed consistenly. But the Isles are making the best of their situation. Think about it- this team has overcome a humiliating November, Nabokov refusing to show up after the trade, DiPietro getting hurt after a one-punch knockout, and a plague of injuries. The Isles have a home and home series against the Capitals starting tomorrow night at the Coliseum.

Flyers might own the Isles as of late, but let us never forget:
