I Love This Trade.

I’m sorry but I’ll have to slightly disagree with sammywestside on this one. The Nuggets were smart in this situation. They made sure they would get some solid players if Carmelo wanted to leave. Instead of waiting until he became a free agent, Denver was able to get it done before the trade deadline. Now the Knicks had no choice but put together a trade. Carmelo would’ve went to New Jersey and signed an extension if the Knicks didn’t show interest.

Chauncey Billups Will Play a Key Role in the Knicks System

Now in order to get Carmelo, the Knicks needed to give away their role players and a 1st rounder. There’s no other way around that. If you look at the big picture, this trade will be worth it. Trust me, I loved Gallinari, Chandler, Felton, and Mozgov but there’s no Melo if the Knicks don’t trade all of them. The only part of the trade I’m kind of upset with is the 2014 1st round pick. But hopefully, if everything works out, I hope that will be the 25th-30th pick in that draft. This trade has put the Knicks in prime form to become one of the elite teams in the league. With Chris Paul and Deron Williams’ expiring contracts next season, New York looks much more appealing for them with two superstars on the squad.

For everyone who doesn’t like the trade, think about this. Would you rather keep Gallo, Chandler, and Felton and stay as a #5-#8 seed for the next few years, or would you want the Knicks to strive to be the best? I’m also excited about Chauncey Billups coming to New York. I know he’s getting old, but he is a great point guard. I remember watching him play for Detroit in the 2004 NBA Finals and manhandle the Lakers. Yea, it was six years ago but trust me, the guy still has a couple years left in the tank. And let’s not forget some of the role players the Knicks received in the trade as well. Corey Brewer will be a key asset off the bench along with backup center Sheldon Williams.

Finally, let’s bid farewell to our former Knicks: Danillo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, Anthony Randolph, and Eddy Curry (thank God). Knicks take on the Bucks tomorrow night at the Garden. You think MSG will be sold out?

One Response to “I Love This Trade.”

  1. One thing about the NBA today you need legitimate scorers. As important as role players are no one has ever won an NBA championship with a bunch of role players. There’s never been a’ no name’ NBA championship team. Now the Knicks still need a ‘ 5’. And after this season they’ll need a point guard also. The NBA finals still goes through Boston in the East. They’re closer but….
