Carmelo Headed to Nets?

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — It appears we have a winner in the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes. Now, all Anthony has to do is sign on the dotted line. The Nets and Nuggets have reached a tentative agreement on a deal involving Anthony, according to The Bergen Record. “Sources tell The Record there is a tentative agreement between the Nets and Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony. Still need him to agree to an ext,” tweeted The Record’s Al Iannazzone Friday. The trade is pending Anthony’s agreement on a three-year, $65 million contract extension. According to Iannazzone, the Nets “won’t do the trade unless Anthony agrees to the extension.”

So this is the first Carmelo report that I’m taking seriously. But here’s the thing, I highly doubt Carmelo will sign an extension with the Nets. He’s already said publicly that he doesn’t want to go to New Jersey. This doesn’t mean Carmelo won’t join the Nets this season. I’ll have more on this as soon as this story develops.

2:45 PM: Ric Bucher of ESPN reports that Carmelo will sign an extension with the Nets if the Knicks don’t make a deal.

Ok so now it’s time to deal. Throw away the idea of signing him in the off-season. Time to make a deal now. Let’s hope the Knicks don’t have to give away Chandler and Gallinari.
