Officially Knicks and Islanders Season

For the past week, I decided to a take a little vacation from the website and rest up for 2011. While on break, I went down to Washington D.C to check out a Capitals game. Having gone to the Nassau Coliseum my entire life, I’ve forgotten the fantastic experience of a crowded hockey game. The Verizon Center is a great arena to watch a hockey game and Caps fans are very passionate. During the game, former Islander Dwayne Roloson was in goal for the Tampa Bay Lightning. This season for the Isles, Roloson was 6-13. In his first game with his new team, Roloson records an impressive 30+ save shutout against one of the best teams in the league. Go figure.

Now with the 2010 New York Giants being a distant memory, it’s now time to fully focus on the surging Knicks and the struggling Islanders. For the past week, the Knicks have been on fire winning four of their last six games. With this streak, the Knicks have climbed to 6th place in the Eastern Conference. They had their most impressive win of the season last Tuesday, handing the Spurs only their fifth loss of the season.

Even though the Islanders have significantly struggled this season, they’ve had a recent hot streak. Before their loss to the Edmonton Oilers last night, the Isles won six of their past seven games. This streak included back to back wins against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings, the two best teams in the NHL. Even though there’s probably a 1% chance that the Islanders will make the playoffs, I would like to see them make a good run during the second half of the season. Hopefully the team can gain a respectable number of points and use a strong second half performance to gain momentum for next season.
