#20: (1998) Giants defeat Broncos; End Denver’s Perfect Season

The Denver Broncos were 13-0 heading into Week 15 of the 1998 season. This was undoubtedly one of the greatest NFL teams of all-time. The Broncos’ offense was unstoppable. John Elway was in the middle of his final season and was showing no signs of age throwing for 22 touchdowns. Running back Terrell Davis was on his way to have over 2,000 yards rushing and 21 TDs. The Giants, on the other hand, were less than mediocre coming into Week 15. They were 5-8, but were coming off a gritty victory against the Cardinals. The GMen came out strong going into the half with a 10-6 lead due to a 21-yard TD reception by Tiki Barber. In the third quarter, Denver would cut the lead to 10-9, but Big Blue answered with a field goal of their own. With five minutes left to go in the fourth quarter, Elway led the Broncos 75 yards down the field ending with a Terrell Davis 27 yard TD run to go ahead 16-13 with 2 minutes to go. In one of the most memorable Giants’ drives of all time, quarterback Kent Graham became a hero. Graham led the Giants 86 yards in only 6 plays and capped the drive off with a bomb in the end zone for Amani Toomer to steal the game. Even though Denver went on to win the Super Bowl and the Giants would end up 8-8, that game made the 1998 Big Blue season one to remember.

Toomer made an outstanding catch – when he was good – man was he good. You could do a top twenty Amani Toomer catches and just scratch the surface.
