That was awful.
You know it’s a bad night when my favorite moment of the game was when I noticed the NC State banner of former Fordham basketball coach Derek Whittenberg. Last night, the Islanders played arguably their worst game of the season. With some of the poorest puck handling I’ve seen in a very long time, the Isles couldn’t put any pressure on the Canes all night. Even though Carolina is one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now, there is no excuse for losing this badly to the team with the lowest point total in the league. I don’t know. Maybe I curse the Isles everytime I go to a game. Back in December I went to the Coliseum to see them play the Rangers and the Isles got man handled 5-2. So in the games I’ve attended, the Islanders have been outscored 8-3. Luckily for these guys, I’m not going to be able to attend any more games this season.
All the Isles can do now is look forward. It continues to baffle me how the Isles are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, yet only a point away from Seventh. Luckily, in this conference, all a team needs is a spark in order to find themselves back in the mix. The Isles will need that spark tomorrow when they take on the 7th place Flyers in Philly. Like always, post-game coverage will be here following the game.
